Synagogues in Hungary
Kecskemet
• Great
Synagogue - dedicated in 1871; built according to the
plans of Janos Zitterbarth; one of the best examples of Romantic
architecture in Hungary; the synagogue's interior was rebuilt
in the 1950's and the building now functions as the House
of Science
• Orthodox Synagogue (Katona Jozsef
Square) - built in 1913; renovated in the early 1990's and
now used as the Museum of Photography; inside: ceiling covered
with a fresco with four symbolic animals and Hebrew inscription:
"be bold as a leopard and swift as an eagle and fleet
as a hart and strong as a lion" (Pirke Avot 5, 30)
